About the Author

Cartoonist Randy Reynaldo is the artist-writer-creator of Rob Hanes Adventures, a fun, light-hearted action-adventure-variety comic book series about a modern-day globetrotting private eye. In 2018, Randy was a featured special guest at the San Diego Comic-Con, where he was surprised with a prestigious Inkpot Award for Achievement in Comic Arts. (Past Inkpot recipients include Stan Lee, Jack Kirby, Steven Spielberg, and George Lucas.)

Inspired by the classic soldier of fortune adventure comic strips of yesteryear, Rob Hanes Adventures is an ongoing independent comic-book series published under Randy’s WCG Comics imprint. The series will reach milestone issue #25 in 2024. The series also currently is being collected in trade paperback, which includes two collections of stories that predate the current series.

Inkpot AwardRandy’s high-contrast black-and-white art and tales of high adventure follows the footsteps of classic comic strips like Will Eisner’s Spirit, Roy Crane‘s Buz Sawyer, and Milton Caniff‘s Terry and the Pirates, and master storytellers like Caniff and Alex Toth. The series has been described as a “grown-up Jonny Quest,” and compared to Tintin, James Bond, Indiana Jones, and the recent Mission: Impossible films.

The artist’s work has appeared in several anthologies, including Love in Tights #2 (Slave Labor Graphics), Negative Burn #30 and 39 (Caliber Comics), and Wolff & Byrd #7 (pinup), and earned coverage and numerous accolades online and in past industry trade publications like the Comic Buyer’s Guide, Wizard, Back Issue, and indy. Randy and Rob Hanes Adventures have been also profiled, reviewed and featured on sites like wired.com, The Beat, First Comics News, Comic Book Resources, Bleeding Cool News, and Newsarama. He also has been interviewed and a guest on Talk Audio Soup, a public radio show devoted to popular culture and, more recently, on Blockhead: Cartoonists Talk Comics podcast and the Comics Arts Workshop.

In addition to the Inkpot Award, Randy is a 1995 Xeric Foundation award recipient. That same year, he was nominated for the Russ Manning Award for Most Promising Newcomer, presented at the Will Eisner Comic Industry Awards. The Xeric grant funded the publication of the Rob Hanes Archives, a trade paperback collection of earlier work from the series. Randy also is a longtime member of the Southern California-based Cartoon Arts Professional Society (CAPS), for which he has served as vice president and treasurer.

Born and raised in New York City, Randy resides and works in Southern California with his wife and two children.
