Beginning
October 12, WCG Comics will begin serializing at its sister webcomics
site—rhadventures.com—three
new Rob Hanes Adventures stories dating back to the late 1980s
that have never appeared in print until now. The stories will appear
as originally intended, mullet haircuts and all!
Rob Hanes Adventures is a long-running modern-day action-adventure
soldier-of-fortune series—in the tradition of Jonny Quest and Tintin—that
began pubication in 1994 under the title Adventure Strip Digest. The
three stories being published at the website are the first ever completed
for intended publication and were used to show to potential publishers in the
1980s during the early days of the independent black-and-white comic-book publishing
movement. (Indeed, indie publisher Renegade Press picked up the series and
had begun promoting it, but closed its doors before the first issue could appear.)
"When I mentioned the existence of the stories to some long-time fans of the
series, they expressed an interest in seeing them," said Reynaldo. "When
I went into my files to look at them, though they're clearly the work of a
very different artist just starting out, I was pleasantly surprised to see
they were not unpublishable. So while they're no
longer representative of my current work, releasing them as free webcomics
for the world to see seemed a simple and way to release them."
In order, the stories include the introductory self-titled "Rob Hanes" (from
1986), "Loyalties" (1986), and "Koman" (1987). The first story will be posted
in its entirety on October 12, and the others will be serialized on a schedule
of 3 pages a week (Monday, Wednesday, and Friday) beginning Friday, October
16.
rhadventures.com is the official webcomics site for WCG Comics and Rob
Hanes Adventures and offers
free comics to visitors. The site features original and rare material from
the series, as well as sample stories in their entirety from the print series.

At present, the print series is available to comic-book retailers exclusively
through Haven

Rob Hanes Adventures is an all-ages comic-book series about a modern-day globetrotting troubleshooter and soldier of fortune. Under the auspices of worldwide Justice International—a worldwide private investigations and security agency—Rob travels the world on assignment, facing adventure, intrigue and romance at every turn! Every issue is self-contained, which allows readers to jump in with any issue.
Initially inspired by the pioneering adventure work of efforts like Milton Caniff’s Terry and the Pirates and Will Eisner’s Spirit, Rob Hanes Adventures brings a fresh, modern-day spin to the classic adventure serial strip genre and has received plaudits for fun accessible storytelling, high-contrast black and white art reminiscent of artists like Alex Toth, and stories ripped from today's headlines.
Series writer-artist-creator Randy Reynaldo is a Xeric Foundation grant recipient
and a Russ Manning Award for Most Promising Newcomer nominee. The series debuted
as Adventure Strip Digest in 1994, running for four issues until being
re-booted in 2000 as Rob Hanes Adventures. Issue 12 of the series
appeared in July 2009. A Xeric Award supported trade paperback, the Rob
Hanes Archives,
compiled the series' original run as a small press zine in 1996.
The year 2010 marks the 10th year anniversary of Rob Hanes Adventures. An announcement about the compilation of the series in trade paperback format is expected shortly.
